As a lawyer, Congressman, Governor of Ohio, and as President of the United States, William McKinley had a close relationship with his mother. He either visited or sent her a message every day. When she became seriously ill, he arranged to have a special train standing by, ready to take him to her bedside. Mrs. McKinley died on Dec. 12, 1897, in
the arms of her son. It was obvious that she had taught him Christian character, for when he was gunned down in Buffalo, NY, he held no bitterness towards his assassin. With Christian courage, he was heard to say "God's will be done" and asked at his death bed to hear
"Nearer My God To Thee", which she had taught him. Let's all use this day to be thankful for a godly mother and let the precious memories of her permeate your mind today. Don't turn
away from the influence of a godly mother.
